Power From the Heart

Aloha

Hō’ihi (Respect)

Ikaika Kākāuha (Athletic Strength)

Hui O Mana Ka Puʻuwai Outrigger Canoe Club was founded in 1990 and is located at the mouth of the Wailua River on the east side of Kauaʻi. Our name, meaning “power from the heart,” reflects the belief that true strength comes not only from physical ability, but from dedication to community, culture, and stewardship.

Our long-range goal is to establish a permanent Hale Waʻa (canoe home) on the Wailua River, ensuring that future generations of children and adults have the opportunity to learn traditional Hawaiian values and practices. Through paddling, environmental education, and cultural experiences, members develop respect for one another, responsibility to their community, and a deeper connection to the lands and waters of Hawaiʻi.

Guided by the values of Aloha, Hō‘ihi, and Ikaika Kākāuha, we strive to cultivate teamwork, loyalty, trust, fairness, friendship, and a lifelong commitment to mālama ʻāina and mālama kai.

About Us

Hui O Mana Ka Puʻuwai is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the tradition of Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling through programs that combine athletic development, cultural education, environmental stewardship, and community service.

We strive to teach and perpetuate the cultural significance of the canoe while fostering a strong understanding of the places where we paddle. Members learn about Hawaiian history, land and water stewardship, marine and freshwater ecosystems, and the responsibility we all share in caring for our natural resources.

We believe that paddling together builds a strong sense of purpose, friendship, and connection to place, creating not only stronger paddlers, but also informed and engaged stewards of our island home.

Join Us!

The men, women, and youth of our club are committed to supporting one another physically, mentally, culturally, and environmentally. Together we enjoy one of life’s greatest blessings: the opportunity to connect with the ocean, the land, and our community through the tradition of Hawaiian canoe paddling.

Whether participating in practices, educational programs, shoreline stewardship projects, community service activities, or cultural events, our members share a common commitment to learning, giving back, and caring for the places that sustain us.

Join us as we paddle with purpose, build lasting friendships, and help preserve the natural and cultural resources of Kauaʻi for future generations.
